And Now We'll Break For the Weather

In July, the sun was hot and shone proudly in the sky, the water was warm and the waves were big. On the days when a soft breeze would wick a soft mist from the ocean and the air would be filled with solar warmth, Scripps was pleasantly balmy. After my vacation up in Idyllwild, the weather was still nice though the water temperature had dropped. Nonetheless, there were no warning signs that August would become, as I've heard some people call it, "Fogust." Up till the Friday of August 5th--actually on the Friday of August 5th--there were some huge sets at Green Walls, the air was warm, the sun was hot, and La Jolla was beautiful. Come the next week, La Jolla was still beautiful, but the air was chilly, the fog was trapped on the coast, and the waves were so flat that the beginner surfers were out in droves (good for them). What happened to the sun and the waves and the air?!

Sunlight and swell patterns, if you're reading this, please come back.

Thank you!
